Red Room Chronicles

Dissecting Marriott Hotels One Business Trip At A Time

Arrived In Pittsburgh

Just checked in to the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel. It has a very swanky marble lobby and a classic pre-war vibe all over the place. Unfortunately I was booked into Room 530. The room was a dark king bed room with a small window directly facing a large air conditioning unit just a few feet away. Not a very inspiring accomodation. So I called down to the front desk to see what could be done. They offered me one of their “parlor” rooms, number 1115, which I was told contained a queen sized murphy bed. I decided to check it out since my first choice was a real downer.

The parlor room is one that is meant to connect other rooms into a larger suite. It’s bigger than the average room with a couch, a few extra chairs and small refrigerator. The bed is a smaller one at queen size but it looks pretty comfortable. The window is only a little bigger than room 530 but it looks out on the archway of the building with a view of the river. The view of the archway with the courtyard and the river gives the room a very European feel, which I like. So I’m staying in 1115 for the next couple of nights. Full review of the hotel to follow.
